WHO WE ARE

Authentic Manhood –  Metro Detroit is a local version  of the national Authentic Manhood organization.  We  are all about setting men up to live lives of truth,  passion, and purpose. We encourage men to live  renewed passion and purposed lifestyles.  We  encourage men to develop a foundation that they can  stand on daily. But most importantly, it sets the stage  for men to be R.E.A.L. with God, themselves and other  men.

 Our resources offer clear and practical Biblical insights  on God’s design for manhood that are both refreshing  and inspiring. We point men to a gospel-centered  vision of life that sets them up to enjoy God’s grace as they pursue the promises of His Word. “33 The Series” is the video resource we use each session. It is a multi-volume, gospel-centered video series that presents the timeless truths of Authentic Manhood in a powerfully new and engaging way.

​It includes new insightful teaching, inspiring testimonies, expert interviews and multiple creative features. As a man experiences the different volumes of 33, he will find himself building a vision for Authentic Manhood in his own life that is built on the gospel of Jesus Christ and was modeled by Him in His 33 years on earth.

 

Our History

In 2005 the Men of Issachar (MOI) Men’s Ministry was formed by Mike Dexter, founder and former senior pastor of Love of Christ Christian Center in Detroit, Michigan.

Then in 2021 the name was changed to Authentic Manhood-Metro Detroit.  The ministry assignment is still the same today which is: For men to understand the times they live in and know what to do about it.  1Chronicles 12:32

The journey started as a small church group of men and has grown to over ten churches throughout the Metro-Detroit, Michigan area.

Pastor Mike’s heart desires were to create an environment where men build community with other men who desired to live a life of authenticity, discover their purpose and become closer to God.

R.E.A.L Men possess these virtues: Courage, Loyalty, Commitment, Resiliency, Personal Responsibility, integrity, Sacrifice, Discipline, Truth, Love, Honor and Righteousness.”

the process

The Schedule 

  • Authentic Manhood Metro Detroit is comprised of 36 weeks, divided into 3 semesters.
  • Each semester is 12 weeks, with a brief break in between.
  • Upon completion of 36 weeks, there is a graduation or commencement ceremony.

The Expectation 

  • What can you expect? Support, accountability, and transparency.
  • What we expect? Commitment, Courage, and Confidentiality.
  • Why it matters? Many men are confused. They often equate masculinity with physicality or look, dress, or social status.

The Commitment 

  • You must not be more than 15 minutes late.
  • You cannot miss more than 2 Saturdays per semester in order to graduate.
  • Dues ($100 per semester) Must be paid before graduation.

The Symbols 

  • Each man that completes the first semester will receive the Sword of Valor.
  • Each man that completes the second semester will receive the Shield of Faith or the Lapel Pendant of Commitment.
  • Each man that completes the third and final semester will receive a certificate of completion and have an opportunity to receive the Manhood ring.
